The Independent Living Department offers a hand up and not a hand out. Services are provided by Certified Family Development Specialists that encourage, direct, and case manage families and singles leading the participant towards economic self-sufficiency. The programs available to potential and existing clients are: · The Individual Development Accounts, · Wheels to Work · Continuum of Care · Family Self Sufficiency Program · Horizon House · Horizon Point · The Family Learning Center. Each programs purpose is to guide families thru a supportive process. To effectively assist the participant it is necessary to create attainable goals to minimize their limitations and to receive intensive support in gaining economic independence. Many clients who benefit from the various essential supportive services are empowered thru effective case management as well as appropriate resources and referrals. Services the client needs are identified and staff assists in the process of pursuing their goals. The Independent Living Department advocates for all clients by participating in various community events and meetings so that their challenges can be met thru community support.
