Human Services, Inc. has been fortunate enough to secure the following additional funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment (stimulus) Act of 2009. Human Services, Inc. experience of 45 years and reputation of delivering high quality programming helped the agency secure many of these highly competitive funding opportunities.
Once fully implemented, these projects and programs will greatly impact and expand critical services in our local communities. The programs and projects listed below will bring 39 new jobs to the local community.

CSBG Project A: Economic Assistance Project |
100 + individuals and families will receive assistance in 1 or more areas: utilities, heating, emergency medical, dental, vision, rent/mortgage, clothing required for job placement and each person receiving assistance will have had a reduction of income due to job lost or hours lost, and each will participate in financial literacy education. |

CSBG Project B: Leveraged Funding |
Staffing support for the Bartholomew County homeless shelter (Horizon House)due to cuts in funding sources |

CSBG Project C: Food boxes & meals |
2500 + households will receive food assistance in the form of either meals or food boxes |

CSBG Project D: Financial Literacy Education for adults & children |
Participates will learn how to plan for their future, maintain checking accounts, savings accounts |

CSBG Project E: Tax Preparation & Direct Deposit education |
Approximately 85 persons will receive Free tax preparation and earned income education, will learn the importance of how the additional money due back to them from the IRS can better serve the family if not given away for rapid refunds fees. Plus will be linked with banking institutions to establish checking and savings accounts. |

CSBG Project F: Foundations Pre-School and Internship |
The project will serve as a catalyst of quality child care in Shelby County modeled after Head Start, create new jobs, and provide the opportunity for interns to become involved to learn the necessary components of the child care business which will enable them to either start their own business or will encourage them to pursue additional education in the field of child care |

CSBG Project G: Computer Centers |
Computer centers installed at each agency outreach office where eligible persons can apply for unemployment, job search, apply for Hoosier Health Wise & HIP, apply for food stamps, write resumes, seek out and learn new computer skills, access financial education training sessions where the person will have support from our staff as deemed necessary |

CSBG Project H: IT Internship |
The agency will hire one displaced worker or a student who will receive real life experiences in the area of IT services and development. The impact is three-fold: one to provide real life experiences for someone going to school to pursue a career in the IT field. The second is to aid the agency in accomplishing goals identified in its technology plan to improve practices and reduce cost. And lastly, a local impact will be for a business who hires the interns at the end of the project will receive a momentary incentive for hiring the interns. |

The local impact of this project is that the agency will be positioned to attract funding to help new businesses start up by attaining a loan for their micro-enterprise |

Increased number of claims processed through the court system for child support; Increased number of families who are eligible for child support will receive it in a timely manner; families who begin receiving their child support will have less barriers to attaining self sufficiency |
